Thou Shalt Honour the Right Way to Shovel Snow
Here’s some important information you need to have before the serious shovelling season hits, from Toronto Public Health:
- Shovel at least 1-2 hours after eating and avoid caffeine and nicotine.
- Warm up first (walk or march in place for several minutes before beginning).
- Start slow and continue at a slow pace (Suggestion: shovel for 5-7 minutes and rest 2-3 minutes).

Police believe more drivers get used to going too fast during the summer months, and forget to take it down a notch when the cold returns, resulting in skids, fender benders and worse.
Winter Driving Tips
1. Slow Down. If conditions are bad, adjust your driving habits accordingly. Leave earlier and take it slower. You won’t get there faster if you’re involved in a fender bender.
2. Keep Your Distance. It takes longer to stop when the roads are wet and slippery. Leaving more room between cars means you won’t have to slam on the brakes if you have a close encounter with the vehicle ahead of you.
3. Look Ahead. Paying attention to what’s happening several cars in front of you will tell what you’re heading into, and allow you time to avoid the worst.
Thou Shalt Drink Only When Thirsty

"We suspect people on the Atkins diet and all these other groups that are encouraged to drink large volumes of fluid every day, that it may actually be deleterious," Clark said. "We think you should actually drink water when you are thirsty." (...)
"It looks like people who are taking large volumes of fluid develop protein in the urine. We know that, over an extended period of time, will cause kidney damage," he said.
